I got my passport renewed at CGI - Chicago. I mailed the passport docs out express mail on thursday. Reached them on Friday, monday was Columbus day, but to my surprise my passport was delivered exactly one week later. I recieved it on friday of the next week. Total time from start to finish 7 days. No mistakes on the passport either. I was very impressed. Anyway I heard that soon passports are being outsourced to TCS?
I cannot find a forum for CGI-CHI passport renewal so I posted this here. Many a time people only post when something goes wrong, for once everything went right!

Hi Pappu and Administrators:

I am not sure if you still need people call to the CHC. I think you need to make Hispanic call a lot. I will be glad to transmit this information but I am not sure if this bill already passes yesterday. You probably know the philosophy about why they do not want support this bill but if they realized that besides non legal residents, there are a lot of Hispanic people looking for GC throug H1Bs, and they are suffering as many of us, they can change their minds......You should contact other members of IV go are Hispanic and make them to spread the voice.....Let me know if we need more calls.......

I agree. Thats a fantastic point. The Hispanic Caucus is already listening but if they probably hear about actual legal immigrants from Latin and South America also suffering because of their obstinance, it will definitely help the cause. I suggest you should definitely make the calls, tell them you are a legal immigrant from Peru and need them to support the bills.

As pappu stated in the first post of the above referenced thread - some of the ongoing efforts include finding how many IV members would get benefit from such a provision and get basic details such as username/Priority Date of impacted members. Future action items might include drafting documents and letters to support this provision. There maybe actions such as sending emails etc. However we would not be able to open a public action item unless we can have thousands of our members willing to participate in a grassroots action item. This survey intends to understand the needs of our membership for this provision and collect grassroots information.

The fact is we have a dedicated group of volunteers (and we need more) who have been trying their best to spread the message about this initiative so that a strong grass-roots support can be created leading up to launch of the public action items. So far we have around 1100 people who have responded. Based on quick calculations carried out using PERM data, it is estimated that there are at least 60K-70K EB applicants waiting to file I-485/EAD/AP (this is a very conservative estimate..the actual number could be much more). Grass-roots initiatives require time and patience and we request maximum number of impacted folks to participate actively.

I had posted my response to this idea before on this thread. So you know IV's position. For something like this you need to get several Greencard holder members involved and approach it very differently. You started the thread on 04-07-2008 but see nothing happens until someone starts working beyond starting a thread. There are many threads that come up on websites with new ideas and everyone comments on them. But if nobody is willing to work everyday on his idea, spend their own money on it , take time off several times in a year to travel and meet lawmakers, prepare documents and presentations for your idea to distribute ad go with in meetings, organize conference calls between group every weekend and sometimes every other week day, talk to various people during your own office hours and between your personal and professional life, it is simply not possible to work on an idea. Unless there is any sacrifice there is no chance of any gain in pursuing any idea, however brilliant it maybe. These ideas get buried in threads on the forums if they are not pursued sincerely.

Not everyone is getting approved. I am still waiting.

Most of people are getting. Your case may have some issues. Or it may be in hand of person who is on week or vacation. Date current means no guarantee that you will get on day 1.

If you don't get with in 30 days , you should contact USCIS or ask IV to help. Pappu already created thread if any one not getting approval and are long time donor should contact IV so they can dedicate resource.

Hi Guys,

I know some of you may have concerns about the distances at the three events we have picked so far. If you are new to walking/running, this would be a really good opportunity for you to start training with the support of Team IV members as well as two personal trainers who are going to give us support and feedback on a weekly basis. These trainers are doing this for Team IV for free, to help our Team. So we should really take advantage of such a bonus feature.

Starting your walking/running goals by attempting a 5K is a very good target to aim for. A 5K is 3.12 miles and you can walk this distance at a moderate pace, no not race walking, just a moderate pace in 45 mins. So this is quite a do-able distance. Also, you can train to jog or run the 5K in as little as a 6 or 8 weeks. Once you sign up with Team IV, we can provide you with more guidance. We have got the support of a couple of major names in the walking/running field.:)

So come on, join Team IV and lets get this ball running, or jogging, defintely walking.

I'd would definitely schedule a consult with another attorney. There is nothing that ties you to this particular attorney prior to the actual filing. I highly recommend getting a local attorney (same state as your employment location), they will be more familiar with state labor agency idiosyncrasies. Make sure to get a recommendation from a friend or colleague, don't pick a name out of the phone book or take your employer's recommendation.

SFO is taking 3 weeks for in person renewal. I gave mine and got date of April 2 (which was 3 weeks away). Probably mail would take few extra days.

The packet was just asking me to confirm my address, and my soliciters address and details. They sent a copy to me, my soliciter, and my employer.

was mailed to me on the 18th of april.

on the cover letter, it said i had been sent these because my PD was about to become current, and or a visa number would be available for me within the next 3- 6 months.

My take on the Mumbi consulate, VB, is just wait and see. It says most other countries, not ROW...and to be honest, i am not guna belive anything untill i see it on the state dept web site. in the full VB which should be out next week.

Im consular processing, im not even on the USA yet, i have had my job held open for the last 2 years.

i carnt see row moving forward that much but i think it will move a little. i dont think it will move back.

Nebraska Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson told the Omaha World Herald newspaper that there has been talk that House and Senate negotiators will not even meet to work out their differences, which would doom passage of immigration legislation before the November mid-term elections.

Bush has stressed both sides must be willing to compromise. As an example, he said Congress should decide whether to reduce the number of "green cards" issued to permanent legal residents if there are too many immigrants.

Bush lost a debate last year to overhaul the Social Security benefits system, despite traveling the country holding campaign-like rallies. His efforts in the immigration debate are beginning to look like a similar national campaign with stops in Texas and New Mexico on Tuesday.

Trying to nudge immigrants into learning English and assimilating into U.S. culture, Bush dropped in on a U.S. history and civics class for immigrants at the Catholic Charities Juan Diego Center.


Getting into the spirit of the class, he asked students which presidents had sons follow them into the White House, then answered in Spanish.

He and his father, Bush said, and John Adams and his son, "Juan Q." Adams.

That's simply incorrect. Since EB-2 India was held up at Jan 2003 from Oct 2005 to June 2007, most EB-2 filers from 2003 and 2004 are still very much out there and waiting. You have to remember that most 2003/04 EB-2 filers from California/NY/NJ/WA were rotting in BEC. High demand states have not approved any labors with 2003-2004 PD's before 2005 when BEC started to approve them. But this was too late as dates were already retrogressed, thus for almost 2 years there was build up for 2003/04 EB-2 cases. I know a lot of them personally.

The only exception to this might be: There were very few cases filed in EB-2 during 2003 and 2004, but that is hard to believe.

This was my complete quot for this particular part of the whole statement.

"The fact is that most of Pre 2004 EB2 lot is already out of the system. Those who are still in are sufferer of namecheck and BECs.There is no perfect mechanism to determine the ratio but I would guess 80% are out from that group." but you somehow conviniently picked up first sentence only.

So I have already mentioned about that. See the problem is that in this foolish system there is no perfect barometer we do have so we can state this will SURELY be a pattern... Yes many are still rotting in not only name check but even in BECs as of today. But most Pre 2004 EB2 lot is out. Now I can not tag a number for "Most"... I think best startegy is to wait for future bulletins. I have already stated my belief and that is with confidence. Does that mean I am trying to say "This will be the only pattern". In case of USCIS nobody can tell that.

the quality of students in tier two or three universities in US and India are more or less on par but for the methodology.Also I do not see any logic in the argument for a direct comparison between Indian educated and US educated unless they have graduated from a top tier (i mean the top 10%) as the seletion process in these institutes are the only ones which is based on the academic calibre and intellectual profile of the candidate rather than a lowered stipend or willingness to spend long hrs in the lab, which a prof must consider while admitting a student for a graduate program in US ....superior written and communication skills can be easily acquired by adaptation to the new environment. However I have seen many Indian educated professionals adapting much faster than many of my US educated friends

Unless one has studied in the US, one will not realize the worth of the US educational system. One clear attribute of US educated professionals is their superior written and verbal communication skills. Not to mention the enhanced ability to culturally fit in a diverse environment.
