I had similar situation recently. I tried calling CGI houston several times with the nos. listed on the website and no human would answer. If you are homesick, these nos are perfect to give a call. It would just play you a long Indian Classical music over and over again. My ears were still ringing with the music after the call, you can imagine how many times I had called!
Once I was lucky to get through, but not for much help. If anyone picks ups by chance, they would be rushing you like anything and refer you to consult the website.
It is amazing!

well red and green u dont have to be so harsh.. a desi is willing to tell and share his success lets listen.. i know its pretty difficult to outsmart the people who have invested thousand of hours .
last 4 yr of study tells me there is money to make , fastest way to make money..you have to make sure its safe..
so i will like the idea of a yahoo group... i have spend almost 4yr * 2 to 3 hrs daily.. didnt make much money at all... but i can honestly tell you there is lot of oppurtunity here.. as long as you can spend time and be patient.. read stockbee blog its a good start.
i like to hear trading strategy from anyone who is doing good..as long as they dont start selling snake oil..

For me the agony is endless. My deshi employer did not provide me the EVL in time though I was able to file in JUNE. They gave it to me after JULY 20th when I stopped sending timesheets.
I am personally not a big supporter of elimination of country quota. Don�t get me wrong. I fully share and understand the endless pain is being gone through by EB3 Indians/Chinese community. Increasing # of EB visa will ease some of their pain.
For an example there are 1000 IT processionals from India wants to come to US with H1/L1/B1. There are ample companies (say 50) owned by Indian and those 1000 IT professionals have enough opportunities to come to US.
On the other hand, for an example, from Ukraine, there are 100 IT professionals are trying to migrate to US with H1/L1/B1 but there are few to none companies (say 1 ) owned by Ukrainians and those 100 IT professionals have few to none opportunity to come to US.
My point is, there are more IT Indians in US do not validate removal of country quota.
Others should get a fair chance � NO MONOPOLY is desirable.
Also New Jersey has too may Indians living, may be one day, there can be revolution, and they might ask for a separate country. I am kidding here.
We are really missing the boat..till Oct'08 FY09 starts..:(

There are just too many fond memories to share in one post... but I do want to specially thank leo2606 who drove 70 miles to pick up myself, venkygct, vsraja and punjabi at the Dulles airport and then took us out for breakfast, then to the rally venue, then for lunch, finally to a hotel room we had booked for a quick shower, basically... like a shadow he was with us wherever we wanted to go! And... whenever we thanked him (and gdhiren who co-ordinated pickups/dropoffs for many ....

My wife's LC was filed through the old process. We also did the PERM for her and were able to port the old PD BUT it took almost a year and the lawyer told us he had to ask his 'congressional contact' for help.
PERM may be an option for people in BEC - but not a sure shot one. The whole process takes ~6 months (including advertisements) and you/your company need to shell out $$$.
I empathize with you - but this is life. I had a PD of Oct '03 - but got sick of my job and changed - so now have a PD of Dec '05. Didn't make a difference as both became current in the July VB.
All of us come here for different reasons - many like me come for career opportunities. When GC/visa issues become a barrier for your career, it's time to rethink - when at the same time the opportunities in your country are much better. In the grand scheme of things, it's still not clear how important a GC is - don't get me wrong it really really helps - but if you are unlucky - then you need to evaluate the opportunity cost.

Why do I get a feeling you are incapable of digesting the concept of "Law of the land". There are certain rules that govern PR & Citizenship statuses ( of all countries)and only land mark & ground breaking edicts can alter such law’s , and that too very slightly. a lot of companies are already getting their patent filing work done by attorneys and paralegals abroad. Wont be too long before your I-485 filing is also prepared from outside the US :)
My question is what will the attorneys and para legals do in the US, if they don't find sufficient cases to sustain their operation? What they studied here is not portable for other countries like software.

I didn't miss a zero. USCIS gets 456,000 apps per year. They can give 521,000. Which means they have extra 65,000 per year. So to clear 600,000 at the rate of 65,000 per year is about 9.2 years.
This is not a discussion for this, but your argument is not clear. New applications don't get cleared first, they are put at the back (of course with a lot of inefficiency, and irregualrities). Wait is due to uneven distribution of apps/countries.

Everybody, please calm down. I don't know what the intention of this thread was, but if it is to increase the participation to achieve IV's goals, then I am sure you all realize it is having the exact opposite affect. The only thing happening on this thread is donors and non-donors going at each other in a way of unbecoming of us professionals.
I am sure we can agree to disagree with respect. Think about some of the messages written and you wonder would it be really said if they were facing the person.
I personally don't think bitzbyte is or was berating IV's efforts. All he/she needs is more convincing. And I don't think he/she is alone. If that was the case then we would be having 49000 members donating and the advocacy effort would be a grand success and we would be having millions for lobbying. The fact is that there are more like bitzbyte than the donors. I am not sure where the problem is but there sure is. Heck, I am donor and I don't find myself talking about IV or hearing about IV from colleagues or friends. Everybody has their priorities set and the daily grind to go through. Getting a GC may not be everyone's ultimate goal. There was a time I used to be so obsessed with GC that my whole life seemed to be revolving around bulletins and the disappointment of backlogs. One day I said enough is enough and stopped worrying about it.
But I realized that the question is not about whether and when I get GC, but is it fair, to you and your family, to go through years of this agony. It is not fair and we have to do something about it.
As much as everybody needs IV to address their needs, IV needs them to achieve our collective goals. Lets think about ways to increase participation rather than marginalizing those that don't yet believe.
1. You have stopped worrying because you got your EAD at least.
2. USCIS is not asking to prove relationship with your great grandparents every time you go for H1B extension
3. You don’t need to worry about the VO at POE or consulate and not postponing your India trip for 3-4 years now.
4. Even though you are on project and pay roll is running, paying the tax...don’t lose your sleep over what memo comes next before the next H1B extension.
Our people are not worrying until it strikes them. Till then they will ask all sorts of questions and have attitude of why should I donate. You can see now and then a thread on IV - Help urgent, I-485 denied, H4- denied.

What i am trying to say here is firstly reaching congressman should not be on the first day itself which some of the folks are doing, atleast wait for a a couple of weeks. and then regarding opening SR i would say atleast wait for around a week or 10 days at the minimum if you are scared of dates moving back. And yes i am not pointing fingers at any individual so don't take it personally "gc_on_demand"

While IV has not lobbied for any particular EB category but I think that is what they should be doing. Isn't one of IV's goals is to end retrogression ... so shouldn't EB3 be at least lobbied for since they are in such a mess ... I don't believe it sometimes that we are still in 2001.. that is 10 years back.
In a couple of years EB2 will be more or less current. So that means a guy who came two years back will file in EB2 and get his GC and I who has been working here for 12 years would still be waiting in line.
Some people say EB1 are brighter than EB2 and EB2 are brighter than EB3 . I find that funny because no one Eb1 or EB2 or EB3 is brighter than anyone unless someone has an extraordinary PHd or is a scientist . Its the lawyers who are brighter and how co-operative your company is.
Besides when we filed in EB3 categories there was no retrogression and hence no one cared or else we also would have filed in Eb2 and got our GC.
I think time has come for IV to lobby for help to EB3 people specifically since EB2 is almost done .

In fact, us members were told how futile the argument was - because no law is ever passed for one category alone. If the country cap elimination bill is passed (which IV heavily lobbying for) - EB2 and EB3 I benefit. If recapture bill is passed then too, EB2 and EB3 I will benefit. No law is ever made for one category. Sure, will EB2 benefit more? probably, because of the spillover rules. The lawmaker offices we went and met with, know less about the whole GC process. They know of retrogression - but do they know of EB2 and EB3 - not really. I would ask everyone who talks about EB2 and EB3 to actually go meet with their lawmakers office locally - and find out for themselves.

I read from another post that there are a total of 233k EB applications. Considering there are 140k available per year, should'nt this list be cleared in 2 years even if another 50k still apply in the next 2 years? What am I missing?

This is the precise reason I am staying away from IV, people just dont show any civility in the forum discussions and starts name calling or shot down the people who ask questions.
If IV comes up with just one single GOAL of reducing the curent EB backlog for the restorgressed categories, people even from RoW countries will start participating in IV campaign and support IV's advocacy efforts in terms of their donations and volunteering for IV.
Reducing the current EB backlog will help everyone.

But think for a moment if you had to spend 1-2 hours a day volunteering for free and no benefit to you, and people come in asking you 10-20 questions and demanding things. How would you feel?
I assure you these are just normal people. well if you find them cursing there is a genuine reason for that.

We don't have a paid call center or support center.
If you are getting good customer service elsewhere, its coming out of your money.

Sorry, when i meant Indian/Chinese, I did not mean only them. it is just because we both seem to be the most affected. However all countries immigrant citizens need to join since everybody is backed up with EB3.
